FPT Industrial dominates the American Lobster Boat races

In the recent lobster boats speed tournaments, which took place on 14th and 15th of June in Rockland and Boothbay and on 21st and 22th of June in Bass Harbor in Maine (USA), the vessels with FPT Industrial engines won all of the races they competed in. These tournaments take place in Maine, on the north-east coast of the United States, and are races specifically for vessels used by professional fisherman, normally over short distances, with the key to victory being acceleration and maximum speed.

Roger Kennedy, from Kennedy Marine Engineering (an FPT marine engine dealer part of the MSHS Group), chose the N67 560 engine from FPT to power his nine meter vessel. The boat went on to win all of its races in the category and recorded a maximum speed of 51 mph. These victories are even more significant because the FPT boat competed against boats equipped by over 900 hp V8 gasoline engines and over 1,100 hp V12 diesel engines, which normally dominate the races, but not this year.

In addition, many other vessels equipped with C13 engines from FPT Industrial’s Cursor Series, with either 770 or 825 hp, won several times in their respective classes. Also in these cases the local FPT dealer MSHS, part of FPT’s global service network consisting of some 900 dealers around the world, has been fundamental to the successes achieved. FPT Industrial’s US operations are completed with a Research and Development center in Burr Ridge, Illinois, to support the adaptation of FPT’s engines to local requirements.

Jeff Williams, Sales General Manager, at FPT Industrial North America said: “Lobster fishing generally requires boats to travel long distances from the coast and then rapidly return to port to be the first to deliver the catch, which means that performance of the engine is critical. Lobster fishermen therefore not only need engines of the highest quality in terms of acceleration and speed, but they also need to be durable and reliable in order to operate in often extremely severe conditions when at sea. This year’s race results once again help to highlight the superiority of FPT engines in a very demanding sector.”

FPT Industrial engines are widely used across a range of boats from lobster fishing to sports vessels. In fact, the Hinckley Company, a globally renowned boat builder and yacht service provider based in Maine, has chosen powertrain supplier FPT Industrial as its preferred partner to repower its powerboats.

FPT Industrial offers a complete range of products for pleasure and commercial boats, due to the specific power and torque provided at low revolutions, which help the vessels achieve better efficiency, even in the most demanding conditions.
