FPT Industrial Powers ‘Tractor of the Year’

The FPT Industrial-powered CLAAS AXION 850 has been named ‘2014 Tractor of the Year’ at leading agricultural exhibition Agritechnica, held in Hanover, Germany, on 10 November 2013.

The award, judged by a panel of 22 journalists from the industry’s most influential publications, was awarded to the CLAAS AXION 850, which features a FPT Industrial six-cylinder 6.7-litre N67 engine.

With an output of 194 kW and 264 hp, and a performance curve providing full torque of 1,132 Nm in a wide rpm range, constant output and power delivery when required is guaranteed. This makes it easy to save fuel while working at a low engine speed and maximum torque, or to work at rated speed with a full reserve.

The NEF engine meets the stringent requirements for Stage IV (Tier 4 Final) emission regulations, due to come into force in 2014, through urea-based high efficiency Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), without the use of either Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) or Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

The N67 also features second-generation Common Rail fuel injection technology, charge air cooling and variable turbocharger. Meanwhile, its Visctronic electronic fan control ensures the fan speed is precisely aligned with the engine temperature and load so the engine runs at optimum temperature.

Noise levels are lowered with the reduced fan speed, which also saves fuel with no impact on output. Thanks to these features, the engine occupies a leading position in terms of efficiency, robustness and quality to achieve top performance in load response, torque and power with minimal fuel consumption.

“We’re proud that the CLAAS 2014 Tractor of the Year is powered by FPT Industrial,” said Giovanni Bartoli, FPT Industrial’s Chief Operating Officer. “In 2012 the Iveco Stralis Hi-Way won Truck of the Year, also powered by FPT, so to have continued to supply award-winning and industry-leading machinery is a fantastic accomplishment.”
