FPT Industrial Supplies Engines for Modasa, in Peru

FPT Industrial Latin American signed an agreement to supply 1,500 CNG engines for the urban buses produced by Modasa, a leading Peruvian company specialized in the manufacturing of urban transport solutions and electrical generators.

The Peruvian company, who already took delivery of 150 units, will receive an average of almost 400 engines per year until 2016. The first fifteen Modasa vehicles equipped with FPT engines will soon run on the roads of Lima, the capital city of Peru.

The FPT NEF 60 CNG supplied to Modasa is a six cylinders in-line, four valves per cylinder, 5,9 liter displacement engine, reaching a maximum power of 147 kW at 2,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 650 Nm at 1,250 rpm. The engine, running on Compressed Natural Gas, complies with EEV standards (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicles), the most demanding emission level in force in Europe, applying to vehicles above 3.5 tons.

Currently, natural gas powered engines can reach approximately 0.5g/kWh of CO2 emissions, which is less than 25% of the required limit. Using a threeway catalyst, they also attain a 95% reduction in emission of NOx, HC and CO pollutants.

Furthermore, the NEF 60 CNG benefits from reduced turbo lag and increased power density, due to its turbo-compressor with Waste Gate and intercooler. Thanks to its multipoint sequential injection system it also features excellent load response.

“This new agreement represents a major step for the expansion of FPT’s business in Latin America and strengthens our commitment towards external customers. It also evidences our technological leadership in the field of CNG engines and our commitment to provide customers with top quality and high performance”, stated Olivier Michard, Sales & Marketing Director for FPT Industrial Latin America.
