Heuliez Bus Delivers its 500th GX Hybrid and Confirms its Leadership

HEULIEZ BUS has delivered the 500th GX HYBRID to the Tisséo – TOULOUSE network, on May 13th 2016. The following individuals were present at this event:

  • Denis BACOU, Vice-President and President of the Energy and Sustainable Development  Committee for Tisséo
  • Marthe MARTI, Member of the Energy and Sustainable Development  Committee for Tisséo
  • Alexandre BLAQUIERE, Deputy Managing Director for Investments
  • Jean-Paul BODIN, Bus and Tramway Maintenance and Service Manager for Tisséo-EPIC
  • Rémy FOYER, Managing Director of Heuliez Bus
  • Eric BALEVIEZ, France Bus Business Manager of Heuliez Bus

This 18 metre long articulated bus offers excellent capacity of up to 161 passengers and will be joined by 24 additional units in TOULOUSE in the coming weeks.

Having the “Guaranteed French Origin (Origine France Garantie)” label, these vehicles combine a downsized diesel engine connected to a generator with integrated starter that supplies the electric motor and recovers braking energy. The hybrid buses enable reduced fuel consumption and CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions by up to 40%, as well as a 50% reduction in NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions. As a result, the average reduction in CO2 emissions is in the order of 37 tons for articulated buses, which represent more than twice the dry weight of each model.

The GX 437 hybrid buses are equipped with the new “Arrive & Go” technology. Before and after stopping, the buses run in 100% electric mode without noise and polluting emissions, reducing fuel consumption by more than 5 % more.

With the removal of the gearbox, acceleration has become constant and smooth, which means better driver and passenger comfort. The noise level reduction is greatly appreciated by the users and inhabitants. These are just some of the reasons which make hybrid buses perfectly environmentally friendly vehicles.

Heuliez Bus has been pioneering hybrid technology since 2010, and had a 41% segment share in France in 2015, making it number one in the national market and one of the leading producers in continental Europe. Hybrid vehicles are already in operation in Dijon, Bordeaux, Paris, La Réunion but also in Madrid and Barcelona and have covered more than 30 million kilometres.  The Company has sold more than 600 hybrid buses to date and for the first time, 50 % of buses production in 2016 will be hybrid.
